Ms. Fong is the Managing Director,  International Business East West Bank in Hong Kong. California-based East West Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of East West Bancorp, a publicly owned company in the United States. Previously, she founded Cross Pacific Enterprises Limited, a privately-held corporate advisory and trading company. Through Cross Pacific, Ms. Fong developed new market access and unique cross-border trade and commercial business transactions for U.S. and Chinese firms of all sizes. As the region’s former Chief Representative of the 5th largest economy in the world, Ms. Fong was appointed by the California Governor to represent the State of California in Hong Kong SAR and China in January of 2000. Through her post as California’s Chief Representative, Ms. Fong successfully established new business transactions, programs and initiatives designed to expand economic, trade, and diplomatic ties between China and US-based firms with benefits flowing both ways across the Pacific. Her background includes extensive collaboration and work with regional companies, Chinese, Hong Kong SAR and U.S. public and private sector organizations of all sizes. Ms. Fong also has extensive experience in managing cross-border transactions for U.S. and Chinese firms, along with mergers and acquisitions activities, and strategic business and legal advisory work as an international business attorney. Ms. Fong was appointed by the Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive to serve on the Commission for Strategic Development, an advisory body to assist the Chief Executive develop a framework as Hong Kong seeks to explore issues pertaining to its longer term development plans. Ms. Fong served on a 39 -person Committee chaired by Chief Executive Tsang. She is also a member of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Woman’s Leadership Board since 2004. Ms. Fong was invited by the California Lt. Governor to serve as the Executive Officer of the California-Hong Kong Business Forum Office, a public-private partnership and continues to bridge valued U.S.-China regional interests to further enhance ties and commercial relationships between the regions. As a member of the California Bar, Ms. Fong practiced corporate and international business law with a specialty in cross-border transactions and served as one of the early executives of two Silicon Valley companies. She is a U.S. licensed attorney and is also a member of the American Bar Association. Ms. Fong served as a Visiting Professor of American Government at Evergreen Valley College in California. She continues to publish on Asia-US business and policy matters before Professional and International Audiences. Ms. Fong served as former Advisor and Secretary-General to the China West Development Xi’an Development Committee, as former Chair of the Americas Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and is the current President of the California Association of China and Hong Kong SAR.
